New ResMed S8EII = Two Questions

1. Just got my new machine. Have been using a Fisher-Paykel H234 for 3 years w/o problems. Pressure on FP machine is 8.0 The DME set the pressure on the new ResMed to 8.0 to match the FP. When I use the ResMed, my lungs feel like they are operating between 50% and 70% capacity. IOW at the end of exhale my lungs are not empty like they are when using the FP unit.

2. The DME told me to momentarily disconnect the AC power plug each morning after using the machine. Not sure why he said that. Anybody know why I should do it? The User Guide doesn't mention that.

Can't asnwer 1.

2. Resmed machines have a nifty option that has them blowing very gently to make sure your hose and mask dry out. This very gentle blowing goes on for about an hour, then stops. If you disconnect the machine, you stop the blowing and it won't resume.
The DME could have told you disconnect for one of the following reasons:
1. He thinks its a bug that he has a solution for.
2. He thinks saving the environment is more important than drying your hose
3. He doesn't believe in letting patients make up their own mind about things.

I'm running a trial on a ResMed. I don't disconnect it, I appreciate that blowing.

Which ResMed machine do you have? Are you using the EPR setting? If so that may be what is making you feel off. You can also ajust the EPR or turn it off to see if that makes a difference. DME suggesting to unplug in morning is not necessary? I'd be curious to ask why for this inconvienent instruction.

Is you new machine an Escape or Elite? Try it with EPR off. There is no reason to unplug each morning.

I love the choices.
I think it must be a bug.

My trial period is over....I'm a Resmed convert.

I like the blowing, too.....don't know why, I use an Ozzy HH...
...but I like it.

I recently got the Resmed S8 Autoset II, but I really wasn't sure what the "after power-off blowing" feature was for. I really like the idea of it drying out the hose and mask, but if the air is blowing through the humidifier (even in passover mode) does it still help dry out the hose and mask? Are you supposed to remove the water reservoir each morning after shutting off the machine?

Thank you all for your replies. The answer to #2 is.....

It's a feature! It's supposed to run for a period of time to dry out the hose (although I would think that most of the time it's a futile effort because the water in the humidifier is still warm).

Called my DME. He says he has seen a few problems where the unit does not shut off at all, and that's why he suggested I unplug my machine each morning.

When I picked up my the ResMed S8 Elite II the DME disabled the EPR mode and didn't tell me how I can get to the Clinical menu to re-enable it. Says that enabling EPR when the Rx does not say to enable it can cause problems with my breathing.

It certainly produces more pressure than my Fisher-Paykel does at the same setting (8.0).
