Home Sleep Studies

Interesting article: http://www.pennlive.com/bodyandmind/ind ... sleep.html

As many of you know, I believe we must move quickly in this direction to reduce costs and get the hordes diagnosed.

Interesting article. Sleep Solution's cost is high but then this is probably relatively new...perhaps, with volume, cost might go down.

Sounds over priced and over complicated compared to my sleep study.
It didn't need no fancy computer hooked up to it - all the recording was done in the little black box strapped to my chest. I did get a very thorough training with an RT on how to assemble it, and a check list with pictures that took all of 15 minutes. Note she was NOT part of a DME but in a hospital respiratory lab. Maybe that was why she was able to train people in 15 minutes.

Absolutely. 95% of the cases are simple OSA. Get a diagnosis, get a CPAP machine and software, and get healthy.

Prices will come down as these machines increase their market share.

I had a home study done (not with the equipment mentioned in the article) and the cost my sleep health center charged was prohibitive. They charged almost as much for the home study as they did for the split study in the lab study and the home study didn't include the titration portion. The home test I had didn't reveal anywhere near as much has the lab study would have. I felt the home study I underwent was a rip-off and in my opinion the current infrastructure of sleep health centers will make money by charging more for home studies than is fair. I hope they put these tests in the hands of primary care physicians instead.
