Body Temperature Question

Post by hawkethorn » Tue Oct 20, 2009 11:30 am

My wife has been diagnosed with both Central and Obstructive Sleep Apnea. She has not been using her mas due to a few issues, which we think we have the solution for. However we were wondering if an issue she has been having recently could be caused by non-use of the Bi-Pap machine she has, or if it is a different issue altogether. What is happening is she wakes up sometime during the night (no journal kept yet to determine a pattern, but one will be soon) Freezing cold. It is unusual in that it is her core that seems to be freezing cold, and it eventually radiates out to the rest of her body ( basically she feels warm at first, and then as time passes her her body also starts to feel colder to the touch) the only real thing she can do is bury herself in the comforter as much as possible, including her face and wait for this to pass. Her father in law said it might be a minor case of hypoglycemia brought about by eating sweets at night, but this has happened even on nights when she does not eat a sweet with her night time pills. Thank you for any information you can provide.

Is she diabetic? Does she have a glucose meter (and test strips)? That's the way to find out......test her when this occurs.
Wal-Mart has meters for $9 and strips for about $20 for 50 or $39 for 100. Diabetics can go "low" during the night and then experience a liver dump to correct it.

By the way, lots of people with Sleep Apnea also have Diabetes (particularly Type 2) and vice-versa.

She should also have a blood draw and the appropriate tests to find out what's going on.

NOT using her machine.....for whatever reason......is REALLY STUPID.

Definitely needs to see an MD - unlikely to have anything to do with OSA or Cpap.
