After a couple of calls to the insurance company, I'm pretty sure I'll be going with cpap.com. I still have an appt. with the DME after the doctor visit, but I'm mainly going to try on masks. I just got a packet in the mail from them with preparatory paper-work that makes for hilarious reading, although it's probably pretty standard. They anticipate the charge for my mask will be $250.00 and inform me in exceedingly large, bold font that there are NO RETURNS ALLOWED!!! for the masks. Also, if for some reason the insurance company doesn't pay up, I agree to be on the hook for the entire thing, at their inflated prices. Sounds reasonable; who could quarrel with that? And although I won't get clear title to the machine for 10 months, my entire copay is due at once--it's just the insurance company that gets to pay little by little! Okay, just allow me to apply a little lubricant before we get started.Slinky wrote:Call your insurance company and ask what local DME CPAP providers they are contracted with. Hopefully you will have the option of more than one as that gives you more bargaining/negotiating room. Then ask your sleep doctor for the equipment order (prescription) as you want to shop your local DME provider options to see who has the most lenient mask exchange policy and an RRT that you like and feel comfortable working with. Letting your "optional" local DME providers KNOW that they are just one of your options generally makes them a little more amienable to providing what you want (w/in reason, of course).
