So, So tired!!

Post by njkmommy » Wed Oct 14, 2009 1:28 pm

Ok..here I go again. I went back to my dr and he gave me a new prescription to raise my numbers on the machine back to what I was prescribed for in the beginning...now I will be 18/14 (does this make sense?) He said that after a few weeks on this setting, if I am no better, I may need to go back to the sleep study place to be titrated again.? I am soooo frustrated,as is my family!
I go to sleep with my mask on, but at some point during the nite< i must take it off (I don't even know that I am doing this) I am only getting about 4 hours of sleep a nite and am catching myself falling asleep all day, everywhere! I can't even make it through an hour tv show, and off I go to sleep. I am constantly fixing the mask so that the leaks do not occur..When I went back to the respiratory place, they watched me put the mask on and said that "I am doing everything correctly"....all I want to do is feel rested!
I have to say, I am afraid to go back up to 18/14 (he had lowered me to 14/10) because at the higher setting I felt like I was hyperventilating and was constantly gasping for air..
Please guide me here...my 5 year old daughter and husband would thank you tremendously..along with myself!

I think the first thing you need to do is try another mask. If you are a nose breather there are som many different ones to try.

What makes your doc think you need to go back for another sleep study? are your number of events good or bad? leaks?
Removing the mask is common at first but if you started therapy in May then i would have thought you would be over that by now.
Wearing socks over your hands at night can help you to stop removing your masks. Most machines have a leak alert alarm that you can turn for when you remove your mask. My machine has one, its not loud enough to wake me, but it wakes the wife then she slaps me But then i started to reach down the back of the bed and pull the plug on the machine, in my sleep amazing
Also you could try taping some straps to your skin to make it move obvious you are removing the mask.

It may be a good idea to try a different mask, its very rare to find the one first time around. I've been going six months and have tried seven masks

Why not check out http://www.cpapauction.com for a different mask. If you are not sure on size you can go to the manufactures web sites and print out the sizing templates on a piece of paper, cut them out and hold them up to your face to figure out your size.

Do you even know if you mouth leak? you might need a full face or hybrid
