help!

Post by LAK231 » Tue Oct 13, 2009 7:46 pm

I have been wearing my c-pap successfully since the end of May. However, in the last week, I've been fighting with it and I take it off, but then I can't breathe so I put it back on. I don't know why suddenly I'm having issues with it....I have hot flashes at night and I think having it on makes me hotter....I don't know....any ideas?

Thanks!!!

LAK231, I've had this happen (not the hot flashes ). What once worked so well, now seems impossible. Frustrating, but it's like riding a bike!!

Are you using nasal irrigation to help with breathing?? Specifically, Rhino Tip with a Water Pik? Are you taking something for clogged sinuses before bed? Are you taping your mouth and then get clogged up in the middle of the night?? Are you running your Humidifier too high?? Drinking caffeine, sweets, carbs or chocolate too close to bed time?

Reread your Mask Instructions to assure your wearing it comfortably. For me, if it's uncomfortable, I'm not doing something right. Also, consider your emotional well being such as Anxiety and Depression.

Good luck,

SG

Just curious.. Gender? Age? Possibility of hormone involvement? Much cooler weather in some parts of the country and heat has been turned on and might affect sleep quality and comfort?

Pugsy, I think "hot flashes" pretty well connotes hormone issues ! That will drive anyone nuts with or without Cpap and she may have to look into something like progesterone to deal with those symptoms if she's going to get anywhere with the Cpap. Glad I'm past it now!

Julie
I didn't see a gender in the OP comment. While those of us females that have gone through the hormonal hot flashes understand, I was trying to find out for sure if OP was female or not. I looked back at the old posts and couldn't tell. Hated to assume hormones just in case OP was male and reacted like some of the guys do when we mention nipple cream for their sore noses.. You know the type, sneaking into Walmart in the middle of the night to the baby section to buy Lanonish so no one will see them.

Anyway, whether hormones or not, maybe sleeping with a fan going directly on the body will help. I do it even in the winter and I am pretty much past all the hormone stuff. Never took HRT because of history of breast cancer in the family. My husband says he does have permanent burn scars on his back from some of my hot flashes, though I think he typically is over stating things..

Hi,

I have had warm flashes every so often. I hear that it is a common side effect of the blood pressure pills that I take. I run with my humidifier on 3 or 4 (out of 5), which makes the incoming air warmer, which also makes me feel warm. To counter this, I keep my A/C on in the summer, and the furnace turned down a bit in the winter. I also run a fan in the doorway to my bedroom. I can adjust the door to block the air flow from hitting me directly, but it circulates enough to keep me comfortable. Finally, I have my bedding set up in layers, so if I get warmer or cooler, I can easily remove or add back a blanket to compensate.
