Cleaning Recommendations

Post by bcab17 » Sat Oct 10, 2009 12:18 pm

How often do you clean your cpap hoses? Do you use simple soap and water or do you do the vinegar and water thing? Does using a heated humidifier require more frequent hose cleaning?

On the topic of heated humidifiers, are there any health-related issues with using regular tap water or does it only create equipment-related issues?

I think the hose should be soaked in cold water and chlorine bleach then soaked in warm water with mild detergent, suck this into the hose and leave to soak

I use mild dish soap. I usually take and run water through it to rinse it out, then I get the entire hose filled with warm water and add dish soap. Then I take the spinable plastic connector that connects my hose to my mask and connect the hose to its self in a big loop and just let it soak for a little while. Then I rinse out really good and hang it up to dry.

I really don't think hoses need cleaning at all. With that said, I do clean mine ever once in a while just in case. I use just tap water and Johnson's Baby Shampoo. I was always told that bleach was very bad for the materials that hoses and masks were made out of. I do use 2 hoses and alternate them letting them hang dry every other day. Tap water is great for every thing except the humidifier. Distilled Water is best there. Prevents deposits and growing things in the chamber.

No, that's a very bad idea. Bleach should not be used anywhere on xPAP kit.

Cheers,

I hang to air dry everyday.
Wash with dish soap and water and shake vigorously , then rinse out 4 times, air dry, once a week.
Soak in vinegar and water once a month....

If you do some searching on "cleaning" (in the Search function) you'll find lots of discussions.

Personally, I've never cleaned my hose or the tank.

It's whatever you feel comfortable with.
