Is 6 hours really enogh?

Post by NEW YORKER » Sat Oct 10, 2009 5:29 am

I have been on CPAP since 2008 and I only sleep 6 hours a night. For some reason I can only sleep six hours so I have to time my 6 hours accroding to when I have to wake up. I dont have a card reader so I dont know much about my thearpy but I feel well rested on most days. Ther are days though that I wake up very slugish and I'll admit very cranky. I also get numbenes in my hands and pains in my lower back. Just wondering if anyone shares my troubles?

I had the 6 hour sleep issues, when I first began cpap, but now I sleep 8-9 hours 2nd month on cpap. Unless I sleep 12 hrs or more, 8 hrs sleep plus nap, I feel sluggish. So I went from hardly sleeping, to sleeping all the time.

But it really depends on the person's lifestyle and body chemistry, some people do well on 6 hours of sleep, while others like me need 12,. So in my case, 6 hours is not nearly enough for me to function.

It depends upon the individual; I believe that most people need between six and nine hours per night. Unless my fibromyalgia is flaring up, I only sleep seven hours per night; I also wake up naturally, I don't use an alarm clock.

I also think it depends on the person. I sleep 6 or 7 hours most nights and that seems to be all I need. Every now and then I'll sleep 9 or 10 hours, but it's rare.

Some folks, with me included in the group, find that they actually need less sleep when using xPAP. I often awake after 6 or 7 hrs quality sleep, and feel just great. Pre-pap, I needed more, and still napped.

Now, I rarely get 8 hrs. So, one could say that xPAP has actually given me an extra hour or awake each day.
.
