Averages of readings

Post by bradleyjoe » Wed Oct 07, 2009 5:18 pm

Is there a standard of averages for cmH2O, L/Min, AHI.
I had a check that my average was cmH2O = 11.1, L/Min = 27.0, AHI = 4.9. I know this is may average but how does it compare to the standard or is there a standard.
Thanks for any help.

Brad

I think the standard for adequate therapy is an AHI of <5.0 or less but most do best at the 1-2 range.

Hi Brad,

I'm new to this too, but do know the answers to your question, so here goes:

The cmH2O is your setting, it is titrated based on your individual need. If you have an auto, it has an algorithm that searches this out between the set Min and Max and you needs. If you are on straight CPAP, it is the setting that your provider put the machine on based on your titration sleep study.

The L/min is the leak rate and the target value is a curve based on your pressure setting above and the type of mask. Many masks come with the target graph in the documentation. From what I have read, 27.0 seems like it is probably pretty good.

Finally, AHI is the Apnea Hypopnea Index and is the number of events per hour you are experienceing. 0-5 is considered normal. However, these values are averages, so you might be higher at certain times, like REM, and lower at others. The lower the better. Many on this site will advise to get EncoreViewer software to download more detailed data from your machine assuming that it is fully data capable.

Good Luck,
DLB

Thank you all your help. Yes my machine has a card but I don't have a card reader.
