de lure of de MASK

Post by carbonman » Sat Aug 01, 2009 8:29 pm

Just about, exactly, a year ago, today, I'm pretty sure,
I was ~1mth, give or take a day or two, into my cpap journey.

I was desperate for every shred of information on this therapy I could get.
So, I stopped into chat quit abit. It may have been the second or
third time on a Sat. night, much like tonight, Someone asked me,
"What's going on?"
I answered,
"It's Sat. night and I'm sitting in a cpap chat room.
You do the math."

This being very similar to that Sat. night, I find myself reading a 7 page
post on a new cpap mask. I found it to be a very good discussion and
a wonderful evaluation.
....and then toward the end, there it was, in all it's innocents ......

but then again "the grass is always greener on the other side"! Such a dilemna.
.....uh oh, the seed is planted.
Could this mask be "The Mask"?
Now I have to go back and reread the entire 7 pages of posts.
Sat. night shot for sure.

I read this and suddenly think,
'yea, I'm ready to order a new mask next week,
I'll get on of these.....coool!'

Then, logic and reason flood my mask intoxicated mind.
A DME won't see one of these masks for....Lord only knows when.
Get real.

Then I realized that I was a victim of
de lure of de MASK

I have chronicled my Odyssey of the mask,
looking for the perfect mask, but this was different.
I am getting excellent therapy through my UMFF.

.....and anyway, this mask will not work w/my Papcap,
.....no way I'm going back to neoprene......

So goes another Sat. night on cpap.

Yep. Another Sat. night spent in an internet forum.
But I guess it's better to not have a life, and to be alive
than it would be to have a life, just to lose it.
Or, uh, something like that.

I know exactly, pretty much, for sure, mostly, at least ball park, what you said.
Only you could make it that plan and clear.

Ah yes, the timeless seduction of the mask!

It's certainly got a hold on me, from the moment I saw it.

The lines...

the marketing hype...

and hope for a better mouse trap!

I won't rest till I have you!

Duuuude, step back.
Maybe there's a 12 step program we can get you into.

until they get it for you.

And just when this Saturday night was starting to get interesting.

CB, I've read your Odessey of the Mask a few times and when remembering our own Search for the Perfect Mask, I'm beginning to talk myself out of this new temptation, but I'm leaving the door open just a little. BTW, when I told hubby I was thinking of a new mask for him, he said "Huh"?

We all seem to be on the Holy Quest for "The Church of the Never Tired" & All hail the "Never Leaking Mask of Nirvana!"

Alas, it is a quest.

Aw rats!
I'm disappointed.

From the title of this thread, I thought you were going to show us how you made some FISHING lures out of old mask parts.

When I'm wrestling with my mask, trying to get rid of the "burps", "raspberries" and other offensive complaints; or when I read a post where someone is experiencing exasperation trying to follow the simple directions from someone who never wore one night after night, I get a picture of Jim Carey frantically struggling with "The Mask!"
