I had my titration last night

Post by unclematt » Thu Jul 30, 2009 1:02 pm

I have been using an automated CPAP for about 4 or 5 weeks with a small improvement. The automated machine was sort of a "loaner" to use while I waited over a month to get an appointment for the titration. I don't have access to the data in my automated machine but sometimes when I would wake up I would glance at it to see what the pressure was. It was always 5.0 to 9.5. In fact, I think I only saw 9.5 one time. It was rare for it to be over 7.0. The tech that ran my titration said he had me on 10.0 for the entire night. I think I got lucky in that the tech guy running the test is also a sleep apnea sufferer so he has a lot of knowledge from personal experience. I reached all stages of sleep but it tool a long time to reach REM. On my first test I was only reaching N1 and N2 and some brief REM. There was no N3. Does anyone know how I could reach REM without going through the N3 stage? I thought that the stages had to go in order and N3 was before REM. That has me confused.

Once I get my permanent machine set to 10.0 I'm hoping that I will have some better results. I also think that I was not fitting my mask tight enough and was leaking too much. The technician last night did a leak test and made some adjustments to the mask and got the leaks down low enough. The mask also fit more comfortable than my ResMed. It's a Respironics but I don't know what model. The forehead pad felt much better. I was excited when the tech told me that I could keep the mask! I guess they probably can't reuse them.

So, does it sound like I'm good to go? I did feel a bit better when I woke up this morning. I really hope having a proper set up will make a dramatic improvement. Before my diagnosis I was honestly considering suicide because I felt so bad and no doctor could figure out my problem.

During my sleep study I had N1, N2, and REM sleep but no N3. I looked it up and little or no N3 sleep is not uncommon.

If you want, we can tell you how to up the settings on your Vantage so you can take advantage of your titration results now.

Ah UncleMatt, sorry you had to feel so bad before getting a diagnosis. Things have got to be getting better from here forward. The struggle now is all about getting the right equipment for good fit that we hoseheads get to deal with...at least we know what's causing us to feel the way we feel. One step at a time, one prob managed at a time, one step each day toward recovery of our life.

That would be so awesome if you have instructions for increasing the pressure!

I sent you a private message that should explain how to change your settings. Be careful with what you change.
If you are still using the loaner and someone is going to look closely at any data pulled from it then you might get your hands slapped. Most likely they won't look real close. I would suggest that you go through the menu and write down all settings as they are now, so that you can put them back like they were, if need be.
