My husband has been using a cpap machine since 2001. I was wondering how often he needs to be checked with another sleep study. One doctor says he doesn't need to have another study. The last one was in 2001. He always sleeps with the machine. This machine is old enough that it does not have a humidifier with it.
Thanks,

follow up sleep study?
Re: follow up sleep study?
There have been many updates and comfort features that have been aded to the machines in that time it might be a very good idea to have another sleep study, if only to get a machine with some of those features.
The doctor may well have only been concerned about his intital compliance. I got my "no frills' machine in 2002, although it has a humidfier. I had another sleep study last year just to be sure nothing else was going on as far as my sleep was concerned since it had been 6 years. I bought a machine with all the bells and whistles last year and am enjoying the comfort features and the benefits (to me) of a auto machine set in a narrow auto range.
If he is feeling well and not having any sleep problems, his machine is still old enough to quit any time so a new machine would be a good thing, in my opinion. Does he have a backup machine? He could keep his current machine as a backup, although he may get to like the comforts of a "newer model" so much he may never use the old one again. That's of course, unless the new one has problems.
If he has good insurance, he can probably get a new machine after this amount of time. If not, he can get one at a good price, online, with his old prescription if he has it or can get it.
