David,
I'm also in the military and thought the same thing. I have several at home including a PCMCIA reader and a 331 to read my ID card. After trying about seven different card readers the military uses including the ones I have at home, I finaly gave up and purchased one fron cpap-supply for about $54+$8 shipping, cpapusa is cheaper but doesn't deliver to APO addresses. I use encorepro and the software kept calling for the MAKO readers. I tried loading the drivers from MAKO to the other readers but it did not work. The ones that are also built into the keyboards don't work. I'v tried different drivers on all the readers, etc.. They will read different types of cards including the mil ID but not the encore card.
Soon to be medically retired E-8. Thanks for serving our country!

Re: Smart Card Reader
I had gotten mine for DHM, no problems with it.
Also like that they ship by USPS....means I can usually get it at box at home, rather than having to send it to somebody that will sign for me while I'm at work...and then collect it on the weekend.
