Less is better with this Mirage Quattro FFM!

Post by sleepypp » Fri Jun 26, 2009 6:19 pm

I was pretty happy with my first week or so of CPAP getting AHI of 1.3 for two nights in a row. I had gotten in the habit of cranking the mask down pretty tight, because I am a side/stomach sleeper who likes to flop and was trying to keep the leaks low. Have been getting L/min consistently between 38 and 39.

Then I read about some other people with the Mirage Quattro FFM that liked the comfort level. I loosened the straps to "just" hold the mask in place. Not bad! Was very comfortable, had 7.9 hours of therapy with L/min 39 and AHI 1.0. My best yet.

I think I may need to set my pressure to 11.5 from 11 (Rx) based on the information in the mask manual and the leak rate/pressure compensation thingy.

I still wake up 4 - 5 times a night a little freaked out.

I'm just a newbie, but just thought I'd share. You all have been so generous with your time and info.

After probably years of keeping you alive by waking up your brain isn't going to trust this damned thing on your face the first few weeks.
You are doing really well. Leave the pressure alone for a week or so Your body is still adjusting.

Good post, Stacy. I'm also a side sleeper and like to bury my head in the pillow, and so have always kept mine cinched down pretty tight. Your post might give me the courage to try loosening it up.

That was very well said!!!

I was quite surprised at how easy it was to breathe with the mask just kind of “floating” on my face. My pressure at 11 is not what you would call high though, so YMMV. I think it does very well considering my beard, moustache and mouth breathing. I am slowly getting used to this. Good luck!
