OT: Need Some 'Puter Assistance *sigh*

Post by Slinky » Sun Jun 21, 2009 2:56 pm

I'm using a PC clone, Win XP, Version 2002, Serivce Pack 2, 1.68GHz, 448 MB RAM.

I'm having some problems w/my Roxio SoundStream.

How do I find what Sound Card(s) I have installed on my 'puter?

Try Start > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices
Click on the Audio Tab and look at the values in the combo boxes in the Sound Playback and Sound Recording boxes.

Hey Slinky... someone else answered your question.

How do you manage with 448mb RAM? Find your hard drive thrashing a lot?

Thank you, jdm. That must not be the problem then.

Creative Sound Blaster PCI and Modem #0 Line Playback are my options and they are there.

I appreciate the help.

Paul - actually, no I haven't had an problems - at least not since my 'puter guru ran 5-6 different malware cures for the doggone malware my granddaughters and their music files blessed my 'puter with. And other than the fact that I've only got access to slow speed dial up. *sigh*

If you have XP, & If the sound card isn't built into the motherboard, (you mention a PCI card), try removing the card & restarting the PC,
then shut it down & refit the card & start it again & see if 'new device found' picks up the correct drivers.

That is the only thing I can think of suggesting.

Good luck

..... and when you get that done, it might be a good idea for you to change the oil in your car ....... it's not that hard once you overcome your fear of crawling under the car.

Is a sound card considered hardware by the 'puter?? I have a sneaky suspicion what might have happened if it is considered hardware by the 'puter.

Yes, but if your "sound card" is integrated with your motherboard please don't try to remove the "sound card". It could be you just need to update the sound card driver.

Thanks, Gumby. I'm pretty sure I know what the problem is then.

Thanks, dsm and others.
