I think I'm actually ALERT! (I think)
I have a very unusual feeling today. I think this is what it feels like to be ALERT! Very strange. Almost feels like I'm adjusting to a new drug or something, this is definitely not a normal feeling for me.
BUT...I got my new Swift mask and after a few rough nights with it, I finally went back to read the old posts on the Swift and....I had remembered you guys said to wear it loose! WRONG! You guys said to wear it looser than TIGHT. Big difference. So I adjusted the mask again, went to sleep with it and I only remember waking up twice in the night when it fell off my head. That's compared to multiple times when I was wearing it loosely and about 20 times per HOUR trying to get the damn Comfort-Lite mask to seal on previous nights.
So last night was the first night I actually had the whole CPAP situation WORKING the whole entire night!
So this is what alert feels like, huh? If you remember I am the one who had an AHI of 85 and oxygen levels down to the fifties at night....so this feels REALLY different. Wonder if this is FULLY alert or if there is more alertness to come? Guess I'll just have to wait and see! WHOOOHOOO!

JAN:
That's GREAT! when you get the SWIFT mask tweaked just right-from then on it is a thing of beauty for many of us! Most of the hoseheads on this site will tell you that the interface is probably the key factor in comfort and success with this therapy, and when they find THE mask for them it makes everything much better. as for me after 11 years on cpap and many masks tried, in jan '05 i got the SWIFT and i have been using it since and have purchased 3 since then. so unless someone can improve on the simple design in a mask that works so well (for many of us) i will not fix what ain't broken as they say!
also keep reading the posts on this site and you will gain much knowledge and help from each and every GREAT poster here, to continue to improve your therapy! after all those years i was on straight cpap at 18cm H2O i found this site and from the help and info of many posters i found out about the auto cpap W/c-flex, and what a difference it made in the exhilation at that high pressure for me when i bought the remstar auto.
Hope this is just the first of many great nights for YOU!
best to you,
steve,

Jan,
Fantastic!
Is that what you'd call a REAL "Rocky Mountain High"?
Let us know if it continues.
Best wishes,
Den

This is the feeling I am hoping so desparately to obtain finally. I am so tired (hehe) of being tired, not being able to concentrate, worrying about repurcussions from my low productivity at work, having no energy to exercise in order to lose weight, etc.
I just got my machine today, can't wait to see if the same happens to me...

Jan,
I know what you're feeling and it is like Christmas and your birthday rolled into one. And, yes, it does get better. Aside from being alert, soon you'll be alert and full of energy that you forgot what it felt like to have. I remember my first day of recognition of feeling awake for the first time in years and I wore myself out running around my house like a lunatic, looking for more people to tell how I was feeling. After a couple of hours, I seriously was tired from being so excited.
I am so glad for you. Like Steve/UFO13 said, the Swift is great (he's a great guy, by the way). I went back and readjusted mine last night from scratch and had one of the best night's sleeps I've had in weeks. Sometimes you have to do that. And one way to keep it from slipping off your head, if your hair is long enough, make a small makeshift bun (no pins or anything to hold it in) right where the curve in the back of your head is and put the bottom strap over it. Won't work for men unless their hair is long enough for a ponytail. Works really good if you have trouble with it slipping off. Last night's adjustment was so perfect that I didn't need to do that, though. I, too, only woke two tiny times and that was it. What a great feeling, no?
And, sleepyintuscon, you will have the same feeling soon. You just got your machine, so you're first starting on the adventure. Remember this post and how happy Jan was and hang in there. You too will soon be posting a similar post. We are all here to help.

This is a good idea. Think I'll try it tonight. Thanks.Sleepless on LI wrote:Jan,

Hi Lori,
This is great news! Glad you finally got some restful sleep.
