what is the best CPAP?

Post by Guest » Mon May 25, 2009 9:28 am

I was diagnosised with sleep apnea 10years ago. I have a resmed s7 elite. I'm ready to get a new machine. In the winter I find the air in my lungs is very cold making me shiver. I also like the s7's smart data. I like to see how my treatment is going. I travel to different altitudes so I need a machine that adjusts easily to altitude changes.

I was interested in the s8 elite II, but my doctor likes the fisher-paykel 600 series with the heated hose.

Please give me suggestions on cpap machines and their pluses and minuses.
Thanks
Ginger

Gingerdos....ready to get a new machine. I was interested in the s8 elite II, but my doctor likes the fisher-paykel 600 series with the heated hose.
Ginger, you may want to Goggle CPAP Machine Comparison. There are several lists comparing the specification of XPAP machines. When I selected the machine I wished to purchase/use, this type of lists was helpful. Because you apparently have used the XPAP in the past, you likely know some of the challenges you had and features you may have liked.......do an analysis and decide what features you think will work for you. The good thing is there's more options today. You have more mask choices as well.

It's nice your doctor likes the fisher-paykel 600 series with the heated hose......let's hope the doc is getting the best possible treatment from the machine of his/her choice .......This machine is your machine and you need to be an active participant in selecting the machine. Otherwise, ask to return the favor and select your doctor's next vehicle purchase with a doctor's requirement to pay for it and drive it the next 5 years!!

Hi

As good as the F&P machines are (great company - quality products) make sure you choose carefully. Some models do allow data recording ...
1) SleepStyle 244 - http://www.fphcare.com.au/osa/SleepStyl ... tStick.asp (NOTE the SleepStyle 242 only records compliance)
2) Sleepstyle 608 - http://www.fphcare.com.au/osa/cpaps.asp (NOTE 604 only has manual altitude adjustment)
3) SleepStyle 200 Auto Series - http://www.fphcare.com.au/osa/cpapauto.asp (NOTE - these models only have manual altitude adjustment)

The 608 is their top of the line model & has a heated air tube plus some models have ambient temp tracking which adjusts the temp of the H/H based on room temp at any given time.

If you buy an F&P you will find it hard to get support here as so few people use them even though they are a top quality machine. The S8 II Elite & Autoset are widely used here & thus if support here is an important part of the decision, then stay with the Resmed.

(Once worked for a F&P subsidiary & consider them a great innovative & world class company)
