Littlebaddow, we all know you meant because of that sleepy feeling that comes over you after a full belly of great home cooking .even to the point of actively and deliberately fighting the urge to doze off on planes/trains/in passenger seat of car/at the mother in laws
WAF, have you washed the filter in the back or changed the white filter that has to be changed? That is important, too, besides just cleaning the mask. Just a thought. Knowing you, you've probably thought of it already.

They appear clean, but last night was my 4 week anniversary so I'll be changing the white filter this weekend. I've decided that I'll do the change on the first weekend of each month; I should be able to remember that.Sleepless on LI wrote:WAF, have you washed the filter in the back or changed the white filter that has to be changed? But I do appreciate the suggestion.

I think they said every two months for the white filter, if I'm not mistaken. But I certainly wouldn't go by eye or wait for it to turn gray or discolor before I'd put a new one in. Just think of what that thing must collect over the course of four weeks. Thank goodness they put those two filters in the machine. Otherwise, could you imagine ?They appear clean, but last night was my 4 week anniversary so I'll be changing the white filter this weekend.

How many hours a night do I use my cpap.
It varies. In the mornings when I check the amount of time I have used the cpap, sometimes it is less than 2 hours. I remove it during my sleep. Five hours is good but I would say my average time without removing it is 3 hr. and 45 min. I do not recollect removing the mask (Aptiva) but it is never on when I wake up in the morning. I guess I sleep long enough with it to feel rested and briefly wake up and remove it. CareS
I've used it every night throughout the night since June except for one night in the beginning when I realized I had the wrong size Nasal prongs, and ditto for one or two naps. I definitely feel best after sleeping or napping when I have my apap on. I tend to get to bed between midnight and 1am these days, waking at 5am to take the dogs out, then going back to sleep till about 9 or 10am.

This type of study drives me insane -- here's why. I've been 100% compliant since around 1995. However, my first machine did no recording. When I went to the doctor and told him I was still having problems, he assumed I was one of the above patients, and did nothing -- in the diabetes world, we call that being a non-compliant doctor.TXKajun wrote:My curious got up and got to wondering about XPAP compliance time of use so I did some Googling on it. About the best I got was from Uptodate.com Patient Info which said:
"COMPLIANCE WITH HOME USE — Six prospective, objective studies of patient compliance with home nasal CPAP report similar patterns of use [3-8]. Whether studied covertly or overtly, patients all reported nightly use for at least six hours per night, but were found to use the device only 5 ± 0.46 hours per night (range zero to 10 hours). In all studies, patient self-report of hours of use was not found to correlate with actual hours of use.
It wasn't until I begged for a new machine that logs, and got one, AND brought it into the office and it showed that I was 100% compliant did he start listening to me. Remember, I had to bring it in TWICE!
He still couldn't figure out how to fix the problem, but at least he didn't blame ME anymore, and had to put the blame on himself.
I do sleep well most of the time, though occasionally have to have medication assistance, either a light pain pill, or a light sleeping pill, usually Sonata does the trick.
Well, at least he finally listened to me when I told him Ambien didn't do anything for me.

Do you like Sonata? A couple of years ago, when I was going through a very traumatic time, my doctor prescribed Ambien for me. My wonderful prescription plan always vetos what the doctor orders as there is always a cheaper formulary they can dispense that won't cost them as much. When they called the doctor, she said to try Sonata.
I didn't find it did anything at all for me. How often or for how long did/do you take it? I gave up on it. Maybe the stress of what I was going through at the time needed something much heavier to knock me out at night. Truthfully, I think that was the start of my OSA, but wasn't diagnosed until two years later.
