Mask Problems

Post by epchuco » Tue May 19, 2009 1:47 pm

I been using sleep apnea masks for over 7 years and not much success. My problem is that I breathe through my mouth and nose. No problem, they got me started me on a full face mask. That worked fine for a couple of days till I noticed blisters on the bridge of my nose. Then it started into trying every mask you can think of. I am talking about the full face, nasals, oral, ect ect. The problems are as follows:

Full Face - Creates blisters, sores or ulcers on my bridge of the nose. I tried everything imaginable but I do know that I had plastic surgery for a double fracture on my nose about 20 years ago. Since then, my nose is very sensitive. I wear glasses and require the real soft cushions on my bridge to keep it from bruising. I believe the full face is not for me.

Nasal mask - That works fine with me, but I can't keep my mouth close which keeps waking me up because of the air leakage in my mouth. No chin strap available has helped me cause I still manage to open my mouth at night. I have gone so far as using surgical or duct tape on my mouth, but somehow I manage to open my mouth.

Oral Mask - That is the one that I wear for a while, but I still kept waking at night. This was due to the dryness (created by the mask on my mouth) was causing the mask to lose its grip on my cheeks.

Hybrid Mask - This one seems the most logical but I couldn't keep the nasal pillows from leaking. Right now I am using the ResMed Mirage Liberty Full Face Mask which I really like, but I still wake at night because of the nasal pillow leakage. I tried all three sizes of pillows, but the large size is the only one that seems to work better. I just seems that the pillows lose their alignment on my nose and that is when the leaking starts. I have to get up and realign it, but it will do it again (about 1 to 2 hours later).

Is there any one with the same problem or can give me any suggestions? I have been using the Liberty for a month and would like to keep using it if I could keep the pillows from shifting.

Even my doctor seems to be out of ideas. The doctor even suggested that maybe I could invent one. They say I would be a good patient for discussion on their next sleep apnea conference.

I am out of ideas and am reaching the point to not using any mask at all.

Help!

Don't know if guests have the ability to search but if you join the forum I know you can do forum searches.

If the Liberty fits best so far ... maybe you just need to modify it a bit.

Here is a link that may help ... or join and do a search yourself.

President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

Absolutely.
First, you have a very long extended area from your nose to your lip. that's why your getting leaks on both masks.
Pull out your Hybrid and cut off your chinflap so you can wear the mask higher. It will make all the difference in the world.
One of the innomed people said they were actually going to put the cut chinflap in the video that comes with the product but changed their minds at the last second.
You can wear the Hybrid with the chinflap or without. I just cut mine this month. It works great with my beard. My beard was getting too bushy for the chinflap.
