I find the nasal pillows masks the easiest to get a good seal. They only have to seal on the nares. You may find that the nares get tender. A little lanolin will help with that. You do have to keep an eye on your leaks to be sure you aren't mouth breathing(I tape). Hose management may become more of an issue, as the nasal pillows masks may become dislodged easier by tossing and turning.
Let us know how your first night goes and we can try to help with any issues you have.

I never had a problem with tender nares. I think people sometimes get them because they have the headgear too tight and it is pushing into their nares too hard.

My first experience with nasal pillows was not that good ... raw nares so bad after the thrid day that I had to go without treatment for a night. But that proved worse than the raw nares so that was the last time I ever slept without my machine. After a couple of weeks with use of Ayr's saline gel, my nares adjusted and treatment started to become more tolerable. Almost 3 years later and I found the Swift LT is my best fitting mask. I'm done with mask trials, stick a fork in me.

The first time I tried them was during my sleep study. My nose was a bit sore the next morning. I think BeanMeScot is right about this being caused by the headgear being too tight. Since using it at home, I haven't had this problem. I have a big plastic clip attached to my hose by a twist tie. I clip this to my pillow case and have no problems with the hose or mask moving (although I do not move much in my sleep).

I think I use nasal pillows, so I will add as well.

my first mask was one that covered the nose and it left cuts betwen my eyes that are still healing

I have been on what I guess are the nasal pillows for 4 nights now? (I have used a cpap for 7 nights so far).
They are the things that plug the nostrils only, with a strap around your head and a built in chin strap?

For me, (so far) it is far easier then the face mask, air leaks have been none so far, tossing and turning is a little hard due to the hose and occasional air blow out of the honker when moving around. No tenderness or soreness for me. Of the 2 different types of devices I have tried I like this one the best.

I have been on c-pap for almost 20 years and can say unequiviclally that the pillows are 100% better than a standard mask. If it is hurting your nose loosen the straps on your headgear a little and eventually you will find the right fit. With the old macks I always had leakage problems and my face always had marks on it from the mask.
