I am newly diagnosed with sleep apnea and obtained a new machine with a humidifier and mask from a local DME store - they gave me a Respironics RemstarPro M Series machine and i have been trying to find a mask that I am comfortable with.
My problem is that when I first put on the mask I find it a slight struggle to breath and can feel the pressure (set at 13). After about 4 hours I am awakened (for some reason) to find that the machine sounds different and the feeling of the pressure feels significantly reduced.
I felt that there was an issue so I took the machine back to the DME store and they checked it out and said the programming was good - slept another night and the same result occured so I again took the machine back and they gave me a loaner machine so they could test my machine - suprisingly, the loaner machine acts the same way.
Is this a problem that anyone else has encountered or is this just me getting used to it (doubtful)?
RemstarPro Pressure Concerns
Re: RemstarPro Pressure Concerns
Steve,
I have noticed the same thing happening with my machine. I will wake up and the pressure is reduced so I take it off and check it but it is still blowing like a waind tunnel. My bi-flex pressures are 21/17. I have the ramp set at 10 for 20 minutes.
I am curious also why the machine feels as if it isnt putting out as much air as it does at first. Maybe it is my imagination, I dont know. Maybe someone with much more experience than both of us has some ideas.

Re: RemstarPro Pressure Concerns
I have been using the m series for 8 months and I find it acts the exact same way for me - starts off with what feels like a huge blast in the face, tapers to a forceful pressure and when I wake up in the night, feels oddly like no pressure at all. don't sweat it, it seems to be normal.
while I have the auto machine, I spent a month or so watching pressure versus AHI and settled on 10cM for pressure. I never liked the 'auto' aspects of it. i guess i am old skool.

This is completely normal. All that is happening is you are getting use to the pressure. There will come a day when you strap on the mask and will hardly notice the pressure. This is a good sign.

Re: RemstarPro Pressure Concerns
I have 3 Remstar or Respironic machines, and they all do the same thing. Whatever pressure they are set to originally feels like a gail storm, but later they seem hardly to whisper. My old Resmed didn't seem the same way. The difference might be c-flex. The weird thing is that when I take off the mask, and put it back on, the pressure seems high again. I don't think it is just gettting used to the pressure that explains this.
