just adjusted settings

Post by 2flamingos » Wed Apr 29, 2009 5:10 pm

While in chat the other night I inquired about my numbers (somewhat of a newbie, been on pap since 11/08), specifically that my AHI varied between 3.4 and 6.2, pressure was almost always near max setting (have an auto with a-flex), and leak rate is in the upper 20's. Suggestion was to adjust lower setting, bumping it up a point or two (current range is 7-13). I bumped up to 8.5 last night, and my AHI went up, as did leak rate and pressure (to max). Am going to try for a few more nights, but was wondering if this was normal?

Unfortunately, I have had no real contact with DME or dr since study and receiving machine - other than one call from me to ask a question - which the RT could not answer (or he lied to me). So at this point, I feel like i have to take my therapy into my own hands.

Have you tried taping (or a full face mask)? You may be losing good air through your open (when sleeping) mouth all night, which might explain your lack of better numbers.

I use a chin strap and don't really have any problems with "mouth leakage". Before chin strap I know mouth was open becasue I would wake up with dry mouth during the night..... now - don't wake until alarm goes off (for the 3rd time).

After further chats - and my realization that my study showed mixed and central apneas (i had forgotten that), I decided I would change back to the original settings.
