HELP! Waking up after I hit warp 12.

Hello Everyone,

Has anyone had a problem waking up after their auto PAP hits warp 12?

This occured during my second study and my first night of treatment. I'm currently using a Remstar Auto with the c-flex set at 3. I think my range is set from 6 to 16 cm. Every time I woke up last night, I noticed the pressure was up to 12 cm. I was unable to fall back to sleep, so I pressed the ramp button to get back to a more comfortable pressure. I awoke several more times and have concluded that 12 cm is too much pressure for me to remain asleep. Should I start taking benedryl?

Hi, Redeye. If this is your first time here, welcome to the site. If not, nice to meet you.

Warp 12? LOL. First of all, if this was your first night on therapy, relax and give it some time. No matter what pressure you're starting out at, it takes some getting used to. Be glad you were able to fall asleep at all on your first night. That's really very good. Usually you're so hyped up about being on therapy and hooked up to the machine, it makes it hard to do that.

Now, having said that, I have the same machine. Was titrated at 10, but usually use my machine at either auto 10-10 or straight 10 because that's why I have found I get the best results. I don't like or use CFlex. Last night, just for experimentation purposes, I tried the auto at 10-14. My episodes were at 10 and at 12. I didn't wake up from 12 and I'm not quite sure why you did. Did you feel the pressure was just too much for you? Did you have trouble breathing? What was it that was waking you up, or do you think it was?

Do you have the software so you can check your data? If so, see what is happening at 12 or above. Maybe you won't need to keep your setting so high and can lower it to maybe 5-10 EVENTUALLY. But you need to be able to find out what your AHI is at certain levels first AND not only use the data from one night as things change usually from night to night.

What mask do you wear? Also, what pressure did they say you were titrated at during your study? Also, the CFlex setting of 3 is the one that gives you the ultimate in help on exhalation. Maybe that was too much to start out using. Maybe try to lower it a bit. And are you using the heated humidifier? I know, a lot of questions but that is necessary to find out what it is causing you the discomfort at 12.

Might try lowering the pressure a bit for a week or so till you get the hang of it . Then slowly increase it.

Remember the saying : Low pressure is better than NO pressure

Great saying and great advice, chrisp.

Redeye - you might find the machine on 12 when you wake up, and it could be that you wake up when it arrives at 12.

However, it's also possible that you've slept through an hour or more of 12, and you're seeing the tail end of it.

You need software to tell you what is really happening.

I can promise you one thing: pressure that seems overwhelming in the first weeks turns into something you are not even aware of after your body gets used to it. It's like weight lifting - your muscles grow stronger.

I have a Resmed Spirit and decided to set it to a straight 14.6 cm.
Even at that pressure after a couple minutes I have a hard time telling if it is on.

You should get used to it, and will probably have to check to make sure it's working once you do.
