Learning to cope with CPAP/APAP
For me this was rather difficult as I have several things that annoy me
when, I am trying to sleep.
Number one is NOISE.
There is nothing quiet about a hose and a machine blowing air all night.
through your nose and or mouth making a noise only you can hear because it telescopes through your head and ears. Resounds through your bed and your pillow and echoes all around you. Earplugs smuck earplugs then I can hear the blood rushing through my veins also.
Second: BREATHING I do not want to be conscious of my breathing. Again impossible when one feels this constricted feeling in your lungs and stomach do to air pressure, rushing in keeping those other airways open so you breathe all night
. Plus one hears your breath exhausting out the vents provided for this purpose
Third PANIC Being startled awake by rapid beating heart, or a loud whooshing sound because you opened your mouth with a nasal pillow mask. You go what the “H” is this? Is unpleasant to say the least. Often a feeling of panic accompanies this rude awakening.
Fourth and foremost I really didn’t want to do this anyway and now I have to make an adjustment and learn to live being attached to hose is unsavory idea for the rest of my life.
I was diagnosed in March 2008 and stalled off my machine until May of 2008
My apnea is a mild case so I went to Yuma for a month in April
But Guess What I did it anyway it took almost a year. .
In another post I will share with you my solutions for my annoyances.
Sticktutiveness wins every time

Re: beginning venting
YOP!!!!!
It took me several weeks to get over the noise of the machine. It made me feel like I was hooked up to a ventilator in the ICU and really creeped me out. Now, it's kinda nice, because it acts as a "white noise" barrier and drowns out my insensitive noisy neighbors.
Good post! Rock on, Moonbeam!

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula.
