Received my results of my second sleep study today (test was Feb 19th). I tossed and turned the first night and could not sleep due to a shoulder injury. Mild apnea was the diagnosis. I explored options such as oral appliance from the orthodontist, tonsil surgery as I have large tonsils and a second sleep study with CPAP to determine my numbers. The second study (a few weeks later) results indicated the CPAP helped me go from 12 Apneas per hour to 0. My sleep efficiency went from 68% to 81% and my oxygen levels went from 87% average to 95% average. At one point it went down to 81%. Apria will get an order from the neurologist in a week or so and I should be getting a call for an appointment to chooe my equipment. I will be getting a CPAP machine with an internal chip I should bring to the neurologist in approx 6 weeks.
The doctor says my machine should be set to 12. Are these numbers normal?
I have read the issues folks have with Apria. Does anyone have any experience with Apria in the Winston-Salem area?

Re: Finally received results from second sleep study
Hell. I just saw your question about the number 12 on the CPAP setting. I am not an expert with the machine. I just received my CPAP a week ago. I am still getting used to it. I have only one full nights rest so far...what a wonderful night of sleep. I cannot remember ever having sleep like that in my entire life! Anyways...the CPAP expert (uncertain of her position) claims that a number 10, 11, and 12 (I think these numbers are about right) are average settings for the machine. I think you can find out this information once you pick up your machine. Good luck!

The avg pressure for patients is 10, however this means nothing! The pressure you need is the pressure you need to keep your airway open. That's what you do the sleep study to see if you need treatment and to find the pressure you need. One night studies get it sometimes some times they don't, that's why I have a APAP and the software and reader to see how my treatment is doing. Jim
