some success maybe!?

Post by nobody » Tue Mar 03, 2009 8:02 am

So the last couple of nights I've been using the simplicity nasal mask. I love that mask because, well, it's simple. I'm just so tired of the full face masks. They are such a pain. The Simplicity has its own issues, but I think it actually works better than the FFMs. The night before last I got up and I felt so good and awake I couldn't believe it. I downloaded the card and although there were leaks...it leaks around the top when I roll over because the hose is so heavy and pulls the mask away from my nose. I taped my mouth shut that night. Anyway the AHI was 0.3. I felt good the entire day with no sleep attacks at all. I did take my ritalin too, but even that is only marginally effective on most days and it's an artificial wakefulness if you know what I mean. Today so far I'm also having a good day so far. The AHI was 0.5. I know my mouth was open though because I woke up in the night and my lips were flapping in the breeze. I was breathing in through my nose and out through my mouth. So I guess I"m going to have to tape it shut. Now if only the sinus congestion would stop I'd be all set to use this mask all the time.

Sounds like you're getting there. #1 thing is you're not quitting. Kudos to you; you should be proud you're in the minority in that regard...

I went and purchased the 2 inch 3M Micropore tape (7.50 a roll, it's like they know cpap users are using the stuff and jack up the price...), and followed others' directions. A little chapstick on the lips pulled in, and over the mouth it went. I figured I'd drool some it would come loose, but it stayed all night long.

Not a single mouth leak...

SnuggleHose - Got the 8 foot and cut it down to 6, used the rest for mask hoses.
Memory Foam Pillow - Cut my own out of my Tempur-pedic pillow. (works great!)
