Respironics Duet???

Post by CharlesJ » Thu Aug 18, 2005 5:00 pm

Hey y'all,

A fella I work with just gave me his old Respironics Duet BIPAP machine. He lost a ton of weight and doesn't need it anymore and so I figured it might be a good backup for my PB420e (which is TINY compared to this Respironics BEAST). Anyway, I wonder if you could help me answer these:

Q1. Can it function as an APAP / CPAP?

Q2. Where can I git me some documentation?

Q3. Can I use it to weigh down my trunk to get traction in the snow in winter?

Q4. How can I hack into this thing to get it to do what I want?

Q5. Should I give it back?

Q6. It has a DB9 connector on the back. Is there a software package for this sucker?

Q7. On power-up, it reports a circa 1998 software version. That's like so seven years ago. Can / should I flash it?

I was impressed that after being powered down for like five years it still knew the time and date.

This sucker is HUGE!

Chuck

Q1. Can it function as an APAP / CPAP?
As a cpap, yes. As a bi-level (one straight pressure for inhale, a lower straight pressure for exhale) yes. As an autopap, no.

Your other questions...I dunno. Well, I take that back...traction device in the trunk, yes.
