Pulse ox use
Do you use a pulse ox? Did your insurance pay for it?

Re: Pulse ox use
I would be interested to try one, but on the other hand, I am not sure what I would do with the information.
Re: Pulse ox use
If your events tend to occur in clusters, it can be interesting to see if the clusters are causing desats. If they are, you might choose to raise pressure slightly, even if your AHI was relatively low.elader wrote:I would be interested to try one, but on the other hand, I am not sure what I would do with the information.
It can also be nice to have one to loan out to friends and loved ones for prescreening purposes.
Re: Pulse ox use
I appears the poll is fubared, 22 paid for a pulse ox, but only 3 use it. sounds like gross waste. jim

Re: Pulse ox use
Bit the bullet and ordered the CMS-50F oximeter.
UPS should have it here on Thursday.
Oxygen saturation in the blood is crucial to overall health, same as controlling AHI.
One or two overnight studies is all the health plans can afford to give(per calendar year)and I dipped into the low 80 percentile during the diagnostic study.
Needed a third study(MWT for driving insurance purposes)and have been waiting since DECEMBER 30/08 for government approval.
Meanwhile,I feel completely lifeless-so I am going to find out if it is related to oxygen desaturation by using this tool.

Re: Pulse ox use
Since the poll only allows one choice, I assume the ones that use a pulse-ox, but didn't pay for it or get it from insurance, either got one as a gift or "liberated" one someone left laying around somewhere.Goofproof wrote:I appears the poll is fubared, 22 paid for a pulse ox, but only 3 use it. sounds like gross waste. jim
Re: Pulse ox use
I know, I thought about that after the numbers started to show it was a bad poll. Something like 3 people use one but 21 paid for it themselves. I hope it is just a bad poll and not that many people paid for something and never use it.

One on ebay was never used because the guy died before he got it out of the box.
Re: Pulse ox use
Yes, when I tried to take the poll, I was confused. I bought an oximeter myself and use it.
The poll does allow a person to say - they bought it themselves AND they use it.

Re: Pulse ox use
From the different plans I've looked at, the requirements vary a bit. The common factor seems to be that your MD needs to suspect you have some sort of secondary nocturnal hypoxemia (desats) that's not being treated effectively by current therapy.Gerryk wrote:Did your insurance pay for it?
Interestingly, at least one insurer does allow purchase solely as a pre-screening tool for apnea, but only if you've got some pretty dire conditions already diagnosed like right side heart failure. By then they'd have already spent tens of thousands versus $100-200 on you. Utterly brilliant use of health care resources.
Wonder if the girl in the avatar is still single, since I bet she was after that!

Re: Pulse ox use
I see that I have created a really bad poll.
Four people responded that they use a pulse ox and out of those four 21 paid for it themselves.
Oh wait maybe this is that new math my kids learned in school that I can't help them to understand.
