My follow-up visit to the "Sleep(y) Doctor" by Car
In March of this year I was diagnosed with sleep-apnea, 48 apneas and hypopneas per hour at the sleep study. I did the study, bought an Aptiva mask and tried to be as conciencious as possible using it. Six months ago I was to visit this elderly Dr. at the sleep lab to discuss how I was doing which happened to be fine. He then said to come back for a follow-up visit in six months which happened to be Tuesday of this week. I went to the hospital, found the room and sat down waiting to be called for my appointment. He entered the room, called my name and I followed him down the hall to his office. He opened his folder, said "hmmm, I notice that you have no apneas and very mild hypopneas". I said OH! My sleep study said I had 48 events per hour which is bordering on severe. "Do you have the right chart? He asked me my name and claimed that it wasn't the name he had called although it definitely was. Did I want to go back into the waiting room and the person that he had supposedly called should go first. I said, "well I am here now so could we get on with it, would you like to take my blood pressure....Oh yeah, sure...he said. It's a little high. I said I am working very hard at trying to lose a lot of weight. He said come back in six months and I said that I didn't think another visit would be necessary and thought to myself that this one was a total waste of time from a totally incompetent Doctor whom I left wondering if he was suffering from sleep apnea.
