What do you think

Post by tvmangum » Fri Feb 20, 2009 10:36 am

I have been on CPAP almost 4 months now and am waiting for my "miracle." My wife is really waiting for the miracle so I can stay awake and have more energy.

When we started the journey my numbers were as follows:
AHI: 24.10/hr

Numbers as of January:
AHI: 10.3
AI: 1.6
HI: 8.8

I am wondering if my pressure is too low. At my titration my O2 was 80%, with the AHI being 13 at 14cm H20. MY pressure is currently set at 14 but during the titration they took it to 16.

Any suggestions to speed up my miracle?
Better over the hill than under the hill--especially since my last surgery was a heart transplant on August 3, 2013.

If after four months, I was still having AHI numbers that high, I'd be trying some other settings.
I would think it would help to have the software to see when and what type of events are occurring.

Do you have a copy of your sleep study? If not, get it and see if they ran into any Central Apneas. If not, you should be able to crank it up a notch or so and see if it lowers the AHI. If the numbers get worse, then you know you went the wrong way.

The numbers on apneas from my sleep study show 1 central apnea, 0 mixed apneas, 6 obstructive apneas and 136 hypopneas over 356 minutes.

Then, I wouldn't think a little more pressure should be a problem.

I went around and around with my clinician. They finally gave me a pulse ox to take home and record my levels for one night. They never gave me the numbers but said they were fine, but my AHI was still in the mid teens. After having a rather long conversation with my clinician my pressure was upped from 20/16 to 21/17 and my AHI dropped below 6.

Double check your equipment make sure you have a good mask seel.
Make sure your machine is working properly IE not shutting off on you or behaving goofy when you are awake it may be doing the same thing when you are alseep.
Check your hose, your humidifier. Once you know everything with the circuit is ok then increasing the pressure is the last thing you can try.

Good luck.
