Replacements and misinformation

Post by Portageegal » Fri Feb 20, 2009 7:50 am

I called the DME yesterday about getting a replacement gasket for my Quattro. The first guy said I had to wait 6 months for medicare to pay. He had someone call back to say they had some gaskets laying around and would send me one. Then I get a call from another guy saying that masks are paid for every three months and they will have one to me by Monday. Of course, I had already checked and knew that medicare paid for masks every three months, I just wasn't in the mood to argue with them, so I had let what the first two guys said go by. It is frustrating being on this end of the hose.

I have run into the same problem. My supplier also said that I shouldn't need the hoses or replacement cushions as often as insurance allows. What does it matter to them they are being paid for them and I need them.

My DME told me the same thing. I wouldn't be surprised if they try to get you to take them less often so they can bill the insurance for a mask that they sell to someone else. Or who knows what other schemes they've dreamed up to make money while not providing any benefit.

same issues here. Cigna wasn't too helpful either. They basically told me - get what you need when you need it. But Apria was all over the place - never got the same answer twice.
