ComfortGel Mask fitting/leaking

Post by Michael » Tue Aug 16, 2005 7:51 pm

Hello:
I went on CPAP about a monthand half ago and its been great so far, but now that my wife will sleep with me again, she now gets up in the night because my ComfortGel mask apparantly leaksaround the edges and sort of whistles due to the vinyl liner in the mask. I have tried many adjustments and now have it where it is a little loose on me until I lay back and then it is snug/tight. I don;t think I can wear it tighter(or looser).
Can anyone give me some tips on this mask/how it should fit so that it won;t leak and make noise? I use the CFlex machine with humidifier and start with a ramp up setting of 4 and going to 8. I only weigh 165 and am in decent shape; not at all overweight or in poor health. Any advice would be greatly appreciated; would be nice to have the wife back in bed even if it seems like i'm on 'life support'.

Michael, I had the same problem with this mask until I read the instructions on soaking it in boiling water for 5 minutes then in cold water for one minute then putting it on for 5 minutes for adjust the gel to my faceand onec that was done have had no more problems with it. Might check that out and see if it helps you.

Another option is to give up on the midrange mask and buy the best.

I started with that mask also, and did the hot water thing. Finally I went to a mirage activa, no comparison, still get little leaks sometimes, but all I have to do is reposition it
