4 0r 5 hours

Post by ainsle14 » Wed Feb 18, 2009 6:34 am

Hello: i have been on an auto cpap for 9 days now. I am getting good results now. For example last night my AHI was 1.8. Average leak was 38 and average pressure was 11.9. But the problem is i only get about 5 or 4 hours of sleep a night now , that is every night. So i am still tired, no matter what my data shows, good or bad. Before cpap i was sleeping longer .
Is it possible that my system is just getting used to the cpap treatment? Has anyone else experienced waking up after only a few hours while getting uses to cpap treatment? thank you

It can take 6-8 weeks for your body to adjust to xpap. Some adjust sooner some take much longer. For only 9 days, you're doing great!
You should notice that with time you will start sleeping for longer amounts of time. I also found that I need less sleep now than I did pre-xpap.
Keep up the great work, you're doing fine!

I don't know what your age is, but anyone my age has to expect that sleeping for 5.5 - 6 hrs. is pretty standard now. I talked to my doctor about this and he said that's very normal, and also waking up a lot is too. I rarely sleep over 3 hrs at one time. However, I'm coming up on my 6 months data report (in a few days), and I think (according to my monthly data) that I'm within the 4 hrs. of minimum compliance.

While I, too, am new at this xpap stuff (only 13 days).............I wake up what I consider a lot at night (6-7 times a night in the beginning). Last night I woke up only 3 times. So I can see an improvement in my sleep 'time' and I have hope that it will continue to improve.

Your numbers are better than mine. I am down to 2.9 ahi and last night went back to 3.0 ahi............but that is down from my 30+ before xpap and has steadily fallen since beginning treatment.

I guess we are all different and will all see improvement albeit in different areas at different times. My number of arousals are down but numbers are still up and your number of arousals are up but your numbers are down.

Hang in there and have positive thoughts and things will just get better...........just try to get back to sleep after waking

I only seem to need about 6-7 hours of sleep a night now. I used to sleep that but then sleep until 10-11am on the weekends. Now I sleep that and get up around 8-9am on the weekends. Definately sleeping a little less but feel like I slept 8+.
