13 Makes me leak..

I don't know too much about all the #'s stuff. I have dial-up, (barely) so I don't have a card reader etc. I do know my ramp pressure is 5 and my top pressure is 13. My mask of 4 nights, does well, till it gets to the 13#, then it starts leaking. I know I should be asleep by then, but have been "fighting the mask", so I'm still awake. How could I lower that top # a little bit? At least maybe I could keep the mask on all night then till I get used to it. I found out how to change the lower# but not the top..Thanks...

The card reader and software for it do not require you to go online. It is a program for the computer. It will show you where you might be having problems and give you loads of useful data.

For leaks, put the mask on, start the machine without the ramp, adjust the mask so it won't leak. Then hit the ramp if need be.

Do you use the c-flex? What is it set on?

5 is really low. I would feel as if I were suffocating at 5. Could you try starting to up that low pressure a little at a time?

How long is your ramp set to? If need be you can hit the ramp again to start the machine at the lower setting again. You can do this until you fall asleep.

Hi Brenda: I can set the ramp higher. Wright & Flippis dis-abled the c-flex, I don't know why. I did find an Auto setting last night-it was turned off-so I turned it on, not sure what it does though, figured I didn't have anything to loose by turning it on. I mailed my card to Wright & Filipis , they said they would read it, send me a report, and I might have to bring my machine in for adjustments. I'm starting to wonder about them a little!!! lol Thanks, Larry

Brenda, thanks for that link. It looks different than mine. I'm going to get some things straightend out with Wright & Flippis this week. They dont seem to want to tell me much-or else they dont know much... Thanks for your help Larry....

Sleepy Boy I find 12 hard to hold so I am sure 13 requires some good adjusting of a good mask to keep down the leaking best as possible.

Ramping is not something I have every understood the WHY of. I go to bed to go to sleep and I want to insure the mask is not going to leak at max pressure before I go to sleep. I am sure the RAMP feature has some validity or it would not be there but I just never understood the need for it. I have the Remstar Pluses and Pros CPAP machines.

Thanks Gale: I took Brendas advice and adjusted the mask while the pressure was at 13. I did pretty good last night with it. At least I stayed in bed most of the night. I set the ramp pressure up to 6, I've gotten used to the ramp now, so it might be hard to change at this point..."US NEWBIES"-always somethin'

Glad to hear that you had a better night! Many of us stop using the ramp eventually. You can keep raising the low setting on the ramp until you hit 13 or you can set the ramp for shorter and shorter periods or you can just not use it and become accustomed to the pressure. BUT...you can continue to use the ramp for as long as you need/want to. If you wake during the night you can hit the ramp again if needed to help you get back to sleep.
Go to https://www.cpap.com and look at the machines there. See which one looks like your machine. Many DMEs won't tell you much. Many don't know much. We can let you know most anything you need/want to know. Just keep asking questions!

If the machine has Cflex I would try to find a way to get that enabled because I think that will help you more than ramping.

I did find the type machine that I have (Thanks Brenda) and there's not many adjustments I can make. The cflex may not have been on my RX from my sleep studies. I have turned the ramp pressure up to 6.5, and I have the leaks pretty much under control. So for now I guess I'm set. I do wear a full upper denture and I have a lower partial, if I dont wear them to bed-I can't stop the leaks. I tried it with my teeth in last night, and had very little leak problems. My teeth are like the stars-they usually come out at night. But ,I guess no more...Thanks for the help...Larry...

C-flex is considered a comfort setting. You should be able to turn it on, off, or to any of the 3 settings that you feel comfortable with. Some do better without c-flex, but most of us like it alot. Makes it feel as if you are breathing more naturally. Many/most of us will try these things on our own. We self titrate, we change settings, etc. Someone else had posted a long time ago that they needed to leave the dentures in too. Don't remember who it was. As long as you're satisfied that's what counts.
