make sure you are getting a new machine?

Post by jaymp04 » Sun Feb 15, 2009 10:35 am

Hi,

I had another question I was hoping to get clarification on. I was told I needed to rent a cpap for the first couple months, and then I could buy one after I knew it was helping. I will be getting mine from a dealer called "Praxair" (not an online store). I have read online people have been duped into purchasing used cpaps, thinking they were new. Is there any way to know for sure if the cpap is brand new with 0 hours? Also, are the rental cpaps rented to multiple people?

thank you!

These machines have what is called "blower hours" and "user hours". The blower hours can't be reset.....the user hours can be.
It depends on which machine it is, as far as how to check those......each manufacturer has their own way of displaying them.
I've read similar reports about people getting used machines. Generally it depends on how many hours it has on it and the other part of that is if the warranty on the machine starts with the current recipient. "Refurbed" machines are similar in the warranty issue (when it begins).

I'm sure that the rental machines are given out to multiple people. I've also read that if insurance is paying for a machine, it is supposed to be "new".

I bought a "NEW" Intellipap auto from cpap.com and it had over 30 hours on it. They told me it was factory testing. I also bought a "New" Sandman Auto from cpap.com but it had almost 5 hours on it and has little fine scratches on the screen. I bought a "New" M-series auto with C-flex as new from yahoo auctions a couple years ago and it had ZERO hours on it. I bought a M-series Pro through insurance from billmyinsurance.com and it had a few hours on it. I bought an M-series Auto w A-flex from cpap.com and it came with a few hours on it. I bought an S8II Autoset from directhomemedical.com and it came with ZERO hours on it.

I was given a new M series that my insurance paid for and it was returned with problems. I was given a factory refurbed unit as a replacement. My unit was less than two months old. I am not happy about this but haven't heard anything back from the insurance company yet.

So if i just checked the number of blower hours, they can't be reset and i would know for sure it was new if this showed "o"? How would you do that on the m series pro?

thank you so much!

this exact thing happened to me. My insurance told me if i wanted I could go to a new DME but my time for rental would start over.

I called my DME and told them the refurb was not acceptable and if I couldnt get a new unit, I would be returning it and going somewhere else.
They gave me a new unit that afternoon.
