Upgrade from CPAP/CFlex to Auto APAP/A Flex?

What a GREAT group you are, CPAPTalkers! As a newbie from Lexington, KY I have found ALL my answers here . . . as well as finding NEW questions and answers!! After reading about tube condensation, I turned down my humidifier to 1 and made myself a fleece hose cover which works great! I used the excess fleece material to make forehead pad for my ComfortLite 2 . . . much more comfortable and no morning mask impressions! Love my ComfortLite2 mask with nasal pillows- didn't know that a CPAP would be this easy!

I have one question now: After becoming an "overnight expert", thanks to YOU ALL, I'm thinking the better choice for machine would be to upgrade from my M Series CPAP Pro with CFlex -- to -- M Series Auto APAP with AFlex. From what I read, I'd expect this to keep me auto titrated all through the night on a DAILY basis, instead of waiting for my sleep doctor to review my smart cards and make adjustments which still won't be optimal from day to day. Is this presumption correct? Has anyone done an upgrade and received better results? All comments are welcomed! Thanks.

As someone who has spent a small fortune this past couple of years I would say you are just fine with the M-series Pro since it is data capable. I would say put your money towards the software and reader and see how you are doing. But I am sure people will jump in here and say to get an auto.

How long have you had this machine?

How much of a fight will you have with the doctor to rewrite the script?

How much hassle with the DME will you get to swap machines? (they will have a contract with your insurance).


You know the answer for the first of these. The other two people have varying experiences with.

You have to pick and choose your battles. If you are in a HMO you are going to have a big fight every step. If you have good insurance, this might be a good test of it.

As Browser says, you got a good machine and need to get the software. You need it for the APAP with aflex too. I used a straight cpap (Pro 2 legacy) for over a year before buying my auto out of pocket and it wasn't all that much better.

I would say if you can swap out with minimal or NO headache, and no cost, go for it, but in either case plan on spending the $$ to get the software.

I agree with Browser and have a similar experience with Jules. I started out almost 4 years ago with a Pro 2 and the software and about a year later bought a slightly used Auto. Tried the Auto and got worse results than single pressure. The nice thing about Autos is that they can be run in CPAP mode......the less-than-nice things are that they're slow to respond and the minimum pressure needs to be set to about where CPAP pressure would be in order to preempt events.....and changing pressures can disturb sleep.
I would recommend getting the software first and then at some point down the road, if you still feel the "need" for an Auto, get one for a spare machine.

Ditto. Software and card reader should be the first priority. You need more information on how your therapy is going before considering another machine.
