tried taping, mouth still dry!

Post by zalez27 » Wed Feb 11, 2009 9:30 am

hello All,

Since ive been on cpap(1 month), i felt good 1st 3 days but now i still feel symptoms. We came to the conclusion that my mouth would open through my sleep. Well I tried the taping technique last night but i still woke up with mouth dryness. And woke up several time last night because my mask was leeking alot! My head still hurts this morning!! This cpap thing is frustrating ready to give up and find alternative! Any advise?

HAve you tried a chin strap? This eliminated the need to tape for me.

The Activa is an excellent mask for many people.

But if you're mouthbreathing or leaking air out your mouth, that could be a problem. I think you said you've tried taping your mouth, in this other thread you started:

Probably it would be a good idea to try a Full Face mask, as you mentioned you plan to do. I'd try the ResMed Ultra Mirage FF and the ResMed Quattro.

Are you using a heated humidifier with your ZzzPAP machine? If not, you might want to get a humidifier. I'd suggest the Fisher and Paykel HC 150 heated humidifier. It's a standalone humidifier that can be used with any machine.

Are you sure the tape did not let your lips open even slightly?

thanks all fro the replies.

Yes my machine has the humidifier and i have have it set at 4 for the highest is 6 heat. The one thing i dont understand is on some mornings the water level is lower and on others its right at the water level as if it didnt heat up at all(why is that).

I do remmember waking up and my mout was full of air and it wa strying to force the air through the tape. The tape was moist and i had to replace with new tape (this was around 5 am this morning)Ohh by the way ive tried chin strap and still had same problem. Ive put it on as tight as i could but still same problem.

Good point, O.

Depending on what kind of tape a person uses, and how they put it on, a "taped mouth" might let leaks and/or mouth breathing happen through spots that come loose or from not being taped as a big enough patch over the mouth.

[/quote] Don't know. If the water level stays exactly the same on some nights (assuming you're using the machine at least 5 hours on those nights) my guess would be that the heat is not turning on, for those nights.

Hi zalez227: I've been going through "ALL" the same problems as this for 2-3 Mo's. I finally took some good advice from my Sleep Lab, and some folks on here and quit the junk fixes and got a FFmask. I finally got a good nights sleep last night for the first time in a long while...
