In Orlando, Florida, sleep docs seem in short supply or very well hidden.
I had my sleep study done late last year at the request of my cardiologist. While overnight in the hospital following having a cardiac stent placed, it was noted that I seemed to just stop - heart, breathing, etc. - for several seconds at a time. The first response was putting in a pacematker to correct the heart portion of the problem: Bradycardia. Following that recovery, I did a sleep study that I have yet to actually see, but was titrated at 17. The doc evaluating the study results seems to not treat only evaluate. He specified CPAP at 14 and my cardiologist wrote the script with that. My first question to him was if the study showed 17 why 14 for the script? He said he had never seen a sleep study report before and just took the evlauator's specifications at face value. I got my CPAP on December 5, 2008 (see equipment below) along with a ResMed Micro (nasal). This was quickly replaced with Quattro medium, followed quickly with a Liberty large. Subsequently, I have added a Flexifit 431 to the mix in constant search for a mask that fits and works well, is comfortable, and doesn't leak. I have become aware of the "Holy grail" nature of this search through this forum and am encouraged rather than discouraged. That so many still seek after years of futility only proves to me that it isn't my problem alone. Somewhere the impetus exists for users to seek and demand a solution.
Having said all that, my question is: can anyone recommend a GOOD sleep doc in the Orlando area? I don't know if this request is considered improper by the standards of this forum; if not, I welcome your input; if it is, I apologize.
I have a first appointment with a pulmonolgist on Feb 18 (I won't mention his name unless asked in a PM so I don't muddy the pool of responses). Any help will be most welcomed.
