Yes. It supposing does not effect sleep structure. Had the same problem you did with the doctor commenting that I could repeat the study using Ambiem. Sleep doctors should write in their standing sleep study orders that Ambiem can be used as needed. That would save time and money on repeat sleep studies but seems like doctors are in the game of keeping cost of health care high.

I would not decide what to do without consulting the doc and tech.

Hi--I def. would take it if I were you!! I soooo regret not taking mine the first go around!! I feel that I did not sleep at all and I know the Ambien would have helped. I so agree with the previous poster---Sleep doctors should write in their standing sleep study orders that Ambiem could and should be used!!! GOOD LUCK----sweet dreams!!

I didn't even know I had the option of taking Ambien on my first study- you would think the tech would have mentioned it when I was still wide awake at 3am. AS it was, I still got 3 hours of sleep and a dx of apnea, but on I opted for the Ambien on the titration study, and I was out like a light and slept for six hours. I barely noticed the cpap at all. I would have taken the ambien the first time around if I had known about it.....

I'm scheduled for my first ever sleep study on 2/13/09 (yes, Friday the 13th...muwahahaha). They automatically prescribed one ambien for me and told me to take it if I thought I'd have any trouble falling asleep.

Being an ex-scientist and current engineer, I immediately asked if drugs would taint the data and interfere with an accurate diagnosis. The nurse practitioner laughed and said, "Not as much as you being AWAKE for your SLEEP study."

I sorta walked into that one, lol...

Great answer!

They told me not to take anything that I don't usually take. I packed some Benadryl just in case, and was about to pop a couple but fell asleep before doing so. Probably had 4-5 hours sleep so there was plenty of data...

The doctor and I talked of those occasions where one must have confidence in his/her ability to sleep for 3 or 4 nights, such as a conference or other events where there is a need for alertness and stamina. He advised me to use Ambien. In fact I keep 10 or 12 pills for that, and its because Ambien, for me at least, loses its effectiveness in about 2 months when taken with regularity. That happens to a degree with many drugs, but seems to be more pronounced with this particular one. That's why I use it this way. But its very effective for me when I do take it.

I am Sick ,Tired and willing to try anything at this point. My Doctor has recommended me to take a Sleep study. Last weekend he had me wear a device to monitor my Oxygen level and Pulse rate. I guess these results and constant remarks from my girl friend about me snoring and not breathing for long periods of time show I need the test. I feel run down all day every day. I will be taken some Ambien with me because the test is expensive and I want to make it worth my while. My test is scheduled for next Monday night and I am hopeing it goes Well. I am not good at falling asleep in strange places and being wired up like a Pinball machine won't help. I will let you all know how the Ambien works. If it does work for me I bet it will work for anyone.
