Short descriptions:

CPAP therapy is based on a single pressure.....Continuous Positive Airway Pressure.

Bi-PAP (or Bi-Level) therapy is based on dual pressures.....an inhale or IPAP pressure and an exhale or EPAP pressure.
Bi-Level machines are capable of handling higher pressures than CPAP machines and a wide range of inhale and exhale pressure settings.

a bipap can be set to run as a cpap but not vice versa - the bipap costs tons more, insurance code is different and the rx is different
