Posting to cpaptalk causing errors ?
Posting to cpaptalk causing errors ?
Of late I have been having increasing trouble posting to cpaptalk - just wondering if this has been a recent problem. I haven't noticed any other threads on this but am guessing it isn't just me having the problem.
1) Keep getting logged out
2) Post an item & get a webpage saying the server crashed
DSM
(mind you, this post obviously got thru ok)

What I think may be a cause is that I cut & pasted data from a PM I had sent & no matter how I pasted it, that post would fail ?

I'll delete my cookies
But, this is the data I have been trying to post - tried from Firefox, tried from MSIE (on Vista Business)
Sent it to my own server as ...
http://www.internetage.ws/cpapdata/gene ... cdisk.html
Will try again after playing with cookies (but somehow don't think they will solve it)

(all my other posts seem to get thru - just that one as in the link above ?)

Re: Posting to cpaptalk causing errors ?
I have noticed some weirdness for a while...
Make a post like this one then click on "SUBMIT" only to have another page appear. Sounds normal right?
Except, when I scroll down on the NEXT page that appears I see the message posting box complete with my message and the SAVE, PREVIEW & SUBMIT buttons at the bottom.
In effect, I end up having to click SUBMIT twice for the post to take.
What makes this issue really hard to track down is that it happens intermittently.
I have never received the SERVER CRASHED messages here. I get those all the time at work... at a web hosting company.

Clear out your temporary files as well.dsm wrote:I'll delete my cookies
I have dumped FireFox in favour of Google Chrome, Opera and IE. Chrome is my main browser of choice. If a site will not appear correctly I will revert to using Opera or IE. There is one particular online banking site that will not work correctly with Chrome... so I use Opera there.
I have some serious issues with FireFox taking an extremely long time loading pages while being a CPU/memory hog on a Dual Core 2GB ram system. Joy returns with Chrome, Opera and IE.... and the nice thing is that tabbed browsing feature is retained with Chrome & Opera.
Okay enough with the nerdy talk for now.

Re: Posting to cpaptalk causing errors ?
I just went to a completely different computer - hasn't been used since last year - used MSIE (which I normally don't use at all) - connected to cpaptalk - copied the data linked to above into a post again got that internal server error.
I di log in.
I may try it without logging in & see if it is log in related.
DSM
#2 - even logging out & trying to post the above linked to stuff on Vista still failed. That suggests it is not cookie related. The computer in question is also a Vista PC but as mentioned - I used MSIE & wasn't logged in when I tried this time.
Really odd
#3 I just started a thread on splitting Vista into 2 disks & the thread posted ok. Then I tried editing the post & inserting the linked to data & again it gave the Internal Server Error - If this problem were cache or cookie related I would not have been able to post the new thread in the 1st place.
Also, I just edit the new thread with a simple line of data & that worked without error !!!.

Re: Posting to cpaptalk causing errors ?
DSM... look what I did change in your text... "replaced by "xxxx".... the 2 original word in your text are the culprit.... the 2 word combined are standard SQL reserved words... the server is interpreting those words and because it doesn't "make sense" to it... generate the error

I have been in contact via PM with a member discussing some of the challenges trying to run
particular software on Windows Vista. Vista introduced a new diskspace management approach
that has broken backward compatibility for a lot of software. What Vist tries to limit users
to only being able to write files etc: into special user spaces. If a program doesn't have
administrator level access, Vista attempts to take all (most) file paths & "xxxx" them
an added path segment that points to the currently logged in user's space (see C:\User ).
By creating a D: disk, you can install software on it and can avoid the Vista security that
so tightly tries to control where you can access on the C: disk.
So the best way around this limit is to split the C: disk into 2 disks (C: & D:) & Vista
should then allow common access to the D: disk & doesn't mess with the paths being used by
programs that aren't running in administrator mode & want to create / read files.
Prior to Vista, we needed 3rd party software to split & reorganize disks such as the C: drive.
But, Vista disk management added a set of functions that allow you to resize disks on-the-fly
& delete & create logical disks as well. My advice is to read up on disk management in Vista
or get someone you know who knows Vista to explain to you how to do it.
The steps I did were ...
1) Open 'Control Panel'
2) Open 'Adininstrative Tools'
3) Open 'Computer Management'
4) In the 'tree' (left panel), under 'Storage' select 'Disk Management'
5) In the panel with a bar showing 'Disk 0' - Right click on the C: disk & select 'shrink volume'
6) Reduce the size of C: disk by about 1/3 to 1/2
7) Create a new logical disk in the free space
format the new disk
You now have split the hard disk into 2 logical disks - I also use the disk renaming facility
to change the DVDrom from D: to E: and the new disk from E: to D: (actually, you need to use
disk management to 1st rename your DVDrom drive to E: before splitting C: as doing this 1st
means the newly created disk will become D: by default).
If anyone has any further questions re running Cpap software on the D: disk & how to set it up -
pls ask here as we have enough expertise between us to answer most questions.
Good luck

Re: Posting to cpaptalk causing errors ?
And to think I was putting all that blame on my old broken down computer.
I am not going to say I am sorry or promise to not replace it this spring it's too darn old. I just hope my kids don't talk like that in 15 or 20 years, I will give them all kinds of errors.

Good work - there had to be an explanation - so it seems there are certain words we can't use as text in our posts
I'll take a close look at the SQL context - I had tried removing all the c: & d: (converted them to C 7 D but that didn't help.
Thanks for the detective work

I already tried several SQL reserved words and all of them generate the Server error... that means that the board software (phpbb) has some configuration problems that should be solved by the Administrators of it.dsm wrote:Miko

Re: Posting to cpaptalk causing errors ?
Again good work - I agree there has to be a config problem - the server appears to look for SQL statements when it shouldn't.
So if I write i-nsert into (remove the dash) in a sentence in a post - it causes an error. (just tried it with out the dashes & sure enough - Server gets sick
DSM
#2 in the thread on the topic (Vista 2 disks) I changed 'i-nsert into' to read as 'inject into' & that got me sorted out ok there.

Re: Posting to cpaptalk causing errors ?
I have issues with CPAPTalk flashing black before changing pages...
I also cannot access CPAP Auction.
Nor can I read more than one page of comments on a product at CPAP.COM.
I've just flushed the data; we'll see if this helps.
