VPAP ADAPT SV

Post by cicero28374 » Thu Sep 18, 2008 11:45 am

I am a newbee and actually I am a VPAP-ASV type of person. Just new to that also.
I am in my seventies and had an aneurysm in my belly fixed in 2001. By the time I left the hospital my kidneys started to fail and I worked hard at keeping them and failed in 2006. So then I started on dialysis and that's a real trip, no negotiation do it or die. Horrible diet. But it is what it is. So then I ended in the hosp for awhile and a pulmonary guy irritated me until I took a sleeping test. Nothing necessary of treatment.
As in all stories time passes and then BAM, 1.07.08 when I go to exercise, I had lost half my strength and had a hard time breathing.I now started yelling at the Pulm Dr. and so he did yet another sleep study and determined that I needed help with my breathing while I slept and all this would go bye bye. So I got a CPAP machine and then it turns out he wanted me to get a VAP-ASV. Well the insurance wheels turned, but o so slowly and finally I got my VPAP. I have to say, except for the masks, I do enjoy it.
More time passes and with 4l O2 I could not get my breath enough to do any of the exercises lest my O2 sat fall into the 70s, so I quit. I Finally left the sleep Dr and went to UNC and they pegged me w/severe Pulmonary Hypertension. So needless to say O2 24x7.
And new meds.
Now that you know more than you wanted to know, here is my first question.
I have a Med-RES VPAP adapt SV machine. I read your post and see all kinds of result numbers. How do you get them? Is there data in the machine that I can get out and process and see whats going on?
God have mercy on us all

Cicero,

What we need in order to help you is some more info on your Resmed Vpap Adapt SV.

Is it the 'new' model or the 'old' model.

The difference between them is essentially minor but relevant to what data you can get from the machine.
The nightly data can be read from the machine to a PC via a serial null-modem cable. If you obtain a
Reslink module (these can be purchased for between $190-$250 depending on where you try to buy one).
The Reslink module allows you to obtain data off an inexpensive SmartMedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SmartMedia
datacard that can easily be read by any combined datacard reader.
i.e. http://www.aedsuperstore.com/index.asp? ... ProdID=160

One difference between the old Vpap Adapt SV & the new is the data that gets shown in the nightly downloaded data.

Here are some examples of data obtained from a old model Vpap Adapt SV (pdf files)
http://www.internetage.ws/cpapdata/dsm-vpap-adaptsv/

I don't have any examples from the new model as I haven't been able to get my hands (or screwdriver) to one, yet

But if you are able to get a cheap null modem cable, you still need to obtain the ResScan software (3.5 or later) and then you will be able to read and display the data from the machine.

Good luck

Thanks for your reply. Don't know old from new and there is no model no on the literature or on the machine.
On the back there is a 120v plug, an air filter a female 15 pin connecotr and a male 9 pin connector.
The data the machine gives on display, is leak, AHI, AI, Average pressure, VT, Resp rate, and MV, for day, week, month, and 3 month.
Is there anywhere the values are explained and I can see what is normal for AHI, AI, VT and MV. The others are self explanatory.
Also, just how do you get a mask that will fit without buying and finding ou then?

Dear DSM,
I read your post on VPAP adapt, I must have the older model as I can't access the AHI and AI as I would like to with the RESSCAN software. Is there any way to upgrade to allow the VPAP to provide that information?

Thanks,

Cicero, You have the 'new' model Adapt SV. The 'old' model Adapt SV efficacy data only included Leak, Avg. Pressure, VT, Resp. Rate, and MV. The 'Enhanced' Adapt SV should serve you well. The only way you can physically tell the difference between the 'old' model and the 'new' model is the new model has '(Enhanced)' clearly written on the 'Adapt SV (Enhanced)' shipping carton. You will need to get a Resmed full-face Quattro mask. It is the only acceptable mask to use with and Adapt SV and accepts O2 lines. The only caution with a Quattro mask is that it runs large. Generally speaking, if your RT says you need a medium Quattro, get the small.

I love this. If the Respiratory therapist tells you one size Quattro mask, you get another. This is starting off on the right foot. Send me the Vpap adapt sv, I will send you an auto Cpap with Cflex.
