Dry Mouth - Dry Tonge

Post by FireMnstr » Thu Jan 15, 2009 12:20 pm

I am new to this site even though i have had my CPAP machine for 3 yrs now. I just learned about this site when I went to the dr.s office with my wife and seen a pamphlet. So I brought it home to check it out.

Anyway, I have been waking up during the night to a very dry mouth and tonge, to th point it is very painful. So I dont use my machine like I should. I have the humidifier turned all the way up and have even replaced the machine because I thought the humidifier didnt work. I also have a full face mask that I have to wear very tight, but I still have leaks around the mask. Is there something I am doing wrong? It's getting to the point where I dont want to use the machine anymore.

What type of machine do you use? What type of humidifier? What is your pressure setting? What full-face mask do you use? Have you tried loosening the mask to prevent leaks rather than tightening it? If your machine gives you daily results readings waht are your numbers (leak rate, AI, HI, AHI and hours used)?

I was having the same problem. I would check and my humidifier chamber would be almost empty. My DME supplier said oh, you must have a bad mask leak, then other excuses. I finally figured it out myself one night. It was dry in my bedroom. I went out got a humidifier just for my bedroom. It has been better since but with the weird weather we have had I can't get the humidity up high enough in the room.

When I wake up with a dry tongue and mouth it is when I do not have my chin strap on. When I am wearing it I do not have dry mouth. I must be breathing through my mouth when I do not have the strap on. That may be your problem.
