CPAP test with installed computer chip

Post by sleepdiva » Mon Jan 12, 2009 4:43 pm

Hi, I am new to this forum and posting for the first time. I have read many posts and find the information helpful. My question is, has anyone used a CPAP with an installed computer chip to monitor pressure and determined which pressure level they need to be at?

I have just used one for the first time even though I have been diagnosed with SA for 8 years. I have been on my CPAP for appox 7 years.

I moved to a new state and am going to a new doctor. I will be brining the CPAP back to the doctor who prescribed this to me for them to review the data. I am quite curious to see the results.

Has anyone used this kind of CPAP to determined their pressure level? Did the results help you?

Thank you in advance.

Many/most of us have data capable machines. We collect and read our own charts and even adjust our pressures when needed.
Many/most of us believe that everyone should be given a data capable machine from the get-go. We are all pro active in our treatment! If you got your last machine 8 years ago, you may be able to get a new machine thru insurance. Or maybe it's time to invest in one on your own.

Yes, many of us do use or have used them. They're called an "APAP"......for Auto-adjusting (or Auto-titrating) Positive Air Pressure (machines).......many of us call them "Autos" for short. They are fully data-capable.

There are also fully data-capable straight-pressure CPAP machines, too.

And, one thing about the APAPs/Autos is that they can run in straight-pressure (CPAP) mode, too.

It sounds like you are talking about an Auto CPAP aka APAP. They detect when you have a series of apneas and raise the pressure slowly until you stop having the apneas. If you don't have any for a while it will slowly start to drop the pressure again. It records all it's pressure settings and apneas during the night so you can review it later with the right software. Many of us run these as our every-day machine.

I am thinking you mean the "Smartcard" which collects the data. The answer is YES.

It help me a lot the first year I was using the cpap. We were able to see the numbers go down as I was loosing weight. It also helps the doctor to make adjustments if needed.

Well, I can see I've been reading entirely too much science fiction lately... when I read the subject line, I immediately envisioned a little computer chip being inserted on the chest or forearm just under the skin and wondered, "But how could it tell the difference between obstructive apneas and centrals?" Yeah, I'm definitely getting to bed on time tonight.
