Washing CPAP hose

Post by Gerryk » Thu Jan 08, 2009 9:44 am

I have been washing my cpap hose recently just about every day because everyone around here except me had the sniffles. I noticed that it takes a long time for the hose to completely dry on the inside. I have come up with a device to dry it out. What do the rest of you do or is there a commercial product available?

I use an electric air pump - found in the camping isle to inflate air mattresses.

Another option is to purchase a second hose and rotate between the 2.

Rotate 2 different hoses or spin it real quick. Speeds up the drying time.

I'm coming up on 4 years (in May) and have been using the same hose........and have never washed/cleaned it.
I figure it's more likely to get "contaminated" when it's disconnected from the machine, so the only time I disconnect it is to fill the humidifier tank. I always use distilled water and very seldom dump the water and have never had to "clean" the humidifier tank on my machine (which is also the original)......it's still crystal clear. (but I don't use heated humidification)

And, I haven't been sick since 2005.
