I tape my mouth shut at night and yet I still wakeup with a desert in my mouth. This morning it was so dry it hurt to move my tounge!
Any suggestions?

wow...until I found the right size mask for me, I taped every night. Only time I had problems was in the researching phase of tape. If it leaks then yes, you're going for desert. Try Microspore tape, like 1 1/2" to fully cover the lips.mbridget wrote:I tape my mouth shut at night and yet I still wakeup with a desert in my mouth. Sounds like your tape is just slipping at night.

Have you tried polident strips? Sounds like taping is for you if you are happy with it, and I've never heard anyone mention it, but maybe you could try a combination of both for a time perhaps for training purposes!? I've never been a 'taper', so don't know if that's even possible or viable.
I was an avowed mouth breather for yonks, due to congestion & allergies, etc, but 1 year on polident strips alone & I now nose breathe 24/7, my tongue sits in the correct position to block my mouth, and my lips seal without any assistance, all night.
Good luck whichever way you choose to go.

Hi mbridget: I see you use the Swift Lt. nasal pillows. I also use them. This morning I awoke to the "desert thing" I tried to blow the tape off to see if I had a leak-no leak. I guess sometimes we just have dry mouth. It was worse for me with the Polident strips. I use the blue painters tape.

Hi
Have you tried a chin strap? I find that stops me breathing through my mouth and its more comfortable than tape.
When I first started CPAP I didn't have a humidifier and always had a very dry mouth. The humidifier helps with that, and also improves nasal breathing as the increased airflow with CPAP compared with normal unassisted breathing dries the nasal passages.

Hi Mbrdiget
Do you have a humidifier, i have picked up one today from hospital, runs off the R8 series and is the H4i. I though about the tape thing but at the moment must be swallowing air as i need to burp, if mouth was taped up i think i may have a problem. Gone back to the full face mask, just hope it works

Re: Dry mouth with tape
I have a humidifier and I have tried to blow out with the tape on to see if there we any leaks. It was stuck tight. I do have that 'blow fish' thing though...could it be that the air is just whirling around in my mouth like a tornado? Maybe I have to retrain my tongue to block the back of my mouth?
