Installing Encore Pro on Vista 32 bit

Post by Babette » Mon Dec 29, 2008 1:28 pm

Good Morning! Being far too stupid to find what I'm looking for, I thought I'd start a new thread. Feel free to send me links to previous threads that answer this question.

I'm getting a slightly used laptop from my Mom. She says it's running Vista, but only the 32 bit version - not the 64 bit version.

Anyone have any experience loading Encore Pro 1.8 onto Vista 32 bit? Anything you can tell me about it?

BTW, for those who are freaked out about losing XP - My Mom's giving me her full-size laptop because she decided it was too bulky for sitting in the tiny waiting room chairs at the hospital (she spends 3-4 hours a day taking my Dad to Chemo). She's upgraded to a Thinkpad, which is about half the size. It has such a wussy little drive, however, that it can only run XP. This is adequate for her needs, so it's an upgrade in her books.

So, if you're having to upgrade your computer, you might think about a Thinkpad.

Thanks much for your help!
Barbara

I don't have Encore Pro but rather Encore Viewer.

I had no trouble loading that on to a computer running Vista 32 bit. May not help much but thought I would reply since Pro seems to work where Viewer does.

Someone with Encore Pro will certainly come along and help you for sure!

Hey Babs! I had to reformat my old Vista 32 machine before I could get EP installed. My irritating, but computer savvy son said that I had a lot of junk on the comp. After the reformat, EP installed beautifully without a hitch. After I gave that machine to another son, I had to install EP on our XP machine. We had SP3 on that one and there was no way that would work. So, I got out another XP with little extra on it, and I'm finally in the business of monitoring my therapy again. I veer off course, here: I like Vista. Perhaps there are few of us who do, but anyway, if you have a 32 bit, I can testify that it does work and works well. Nothing ever went wrong with it on Vista--just had to reformat to get the installation done. ( I just wonder what in the world was on that old Vista to keep EP from installing.)

Go for it!

Jerry, my best bet right now is:

1) Thinkpad - runs XP
2) Vista 32 bit

Is there a way to hook my old XP running tower to my new laptop, and then switch back and forth between them? I would love to get this monster monitor off my overcrowded desk.

I'm hoping I don't have to reformat the Laptop. Mom's only had it about a year, so hopefully it's not too bad. I might tell her to wipe it before she gives it to me. Usually when I get her cast off computers, it's with the understanding that this is a "backup" machine to her home based business computer, so I save all her stuff on it, JUST IN CASE. But she's already got a tower for backup to the even newer Vista machine, so this could be wiped. She bought one of those new fancy flat screens that has all the "tower" guts in it, so all you see is the "monitor" and the keyboard.

If I could completely morph over to the laptop, I'd have an XP machine that I could send, you Jerry.

Cheers,
B.

It won't hurt to just try to install it. The most common problem seems to be getting through the SQL install. It that finishes, then you will be in good shape.

Sounds like what I'll do. I'll holler if anything explodes.

Thanks all!

I have been using Encore Pro 1.8.49 with Vista Home Premium SP1 for several months now. There is one tweak you may need to make so that the driver is loaded each time. Mindy mentioned the tweak some time ago in one of het posts but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Aside from a different look and some changed locations, Vista has been very stable for Gumby. Go for it girl
Holler back if you need anything.
