I got my sleep study and was diagnosed as "severe" based on having 62 episodes per hour and oxygen going down to 81%. Got my machine a week ago with the FFM and humidifier. After 3 nights on the FFM I exchanged it for Swift LT for her (using S mask) and took to it rather well. I am able to keep it on for most of the night. Last night was the longest. I put it on while reading in bed at 10, went to sleep at 11, got up for a potty break at 1, then went back to bed until 6am. At 6am, I took it off and went back to sleep until 8am.
Right now I'm sooooo sleepy that I could easily go back to sleep for another hour or two. I'm tired of feeling like this and it makes me cranky. When will I not feel like this? I thought if I keep the mask on most of the night I'd feel rested in the a.m.
Fyi....my pressure starts at 5 and ramps up to 9, but that hasn't been finalized yet.
When will I not feel so sleepy?
Re: When will I not feel so sleepy?
It can take weeks to months to get past the "still sleepy" feeling.......under "ideal" circumstances. (depends on the amount of sleep debt you've built up)
If the pressure isn't right, that's another problem. (a data-capable machine and software will help determine that)
AND......last but not least.....if you're leaking air out your mouth at night, it could NEVER happen.......until you stop the leaking. To be sure, you'd need to tape your mouth shut (blue painter's tape) or use Polident adhesive denture strips.
The mouth-leaking is by far the biggest problem for new users who use nasal masks.

Re: When will I not feel so sleepy?
I have heard it varies from person to person. For me it took a month and a half or so. I'm still not sleeping through the night on the thing (normally about 3-4 hours), but I'm working on that and I DO feel better. Went from being ready to go back to bed at 11 AM to being ready for bed in *shock* the evening!
Not your stereotypical xpap user! 5 feet tall, healthy weight, female, and 23. I've had OSA undiagnosed at least since high school.
In addition to OSA, I also order up random food I don't like while I'm asleep.
