Leak rate with obstructed vent?

Post by kteague » Mon Dec 22, 2008 4:34 pm

Was reading some posts about leak rates and it crossed my mind to wonder what the leak rate looks like if someone has burrowed their mask into the pillow and blocked the vent or if an extra strap slipped and blocked it. Would it just say zero or show a negative number?

But......you may not be alive to read the reports......

I'm guessing it would be a significantly lower number than one would normally see. It would have to be one heck of a blockage, I would think, to not see any leak numbers.

Oh, I would hope I would either wake up or open my mouth before I died...

I'm a bit of a "face burrower". I was seeing the leak rate go low, below the leak rate for the mask. I checked the video and I was digging my face into the pillow. My ox drops a little, but not too much before I move to a better position.

The leak rate never went to zero, just below the designed-in leak rate for that mask.

I made a little widget for the Swift LT that solved the problem. It's not possible to block the vent now.
