Oxygen Saturation levels?

Post by tdm5032c » Sat Dec 20, 2008 11:16 pm

I've seen some talk on here about oxygen saturation levels with CPAP. What is a NORMAL level and can years of sleep apnea affect this? Mine was recently checked when I was in for a separate test and it was 92% on oxygen. The doctor didn't seem concerned, but it seems low to me. Any thoughts?

Do you mean your oxygen level while you were asleep and using CPAP was checked?

I would say that for a person who has several heart problems that will soon require surgery, that's a good level - even when awake. Your blood oxygen depends on a number of thing, one of the being your heart's ability to pump oxygenated blood into all parts of your body.

Probably so, I just didn't know what the normal levels are. My heart problems most definitely affect my oxygen saturation levels, which is another reason I'm so tired all the time. My doctor did say it was a very good thing that I have started CPAP treatment though as that will help quite a bit.

generally 90 and above is acceptable below that usually supplemental oxygen is used.upper 90's is normal.

osa in itself is serious, bothersome to say the least.---- osa causes oxygen desaturation which affects almost if not all human organs. untreated over a peroid of time this lack of oxygen to the tissues in your body causes all sorts of bad Sh@t to happen. the brain gets cloudy , heart, liver, kidneys etc etc get weak and don't function well at all, if not fail. not pretty scene.

some here invest in oxymeters to keep track of this . there are several companies online that sell direct without requiringa prescription. search oxymeter - there are several threads and a couple of great product reviews posted.your cardiologist can tell ya what they like to see and can get you a script for one if you need.

Here is a chart showing a 'normal' night fro me. My wife tends to score an average of 2 points higher than I do.

Hope it helps you with what is normal for me.
